Philadelphia 76ers Assist for Safe Communities Partners with Youth Sentencing and Reentry Project to Combat Gun Violence

Philadelphia, PA – December 2023 – The Youth Sentencing and Reentry Project (YSRP) is proud to announce its partnership with the Philadelphia 76ers Assist for Safe Communities initiative. This partnership underscores a shared commitment to addressing the critical issue of gun violence and the need for mental health support in Philadelphia.

“We are thrilled to partner with the Philadelphia 76ers Assist for Safe Communities initiative in our shared mission to promote safer communities in Philadelphia,” said Bianca van Heydoorn, Executive Director at YSRP.  “The 76ers are an integral part of this city, and we deeply appreciate this investment and are encouraged that they are using their platform to highlight the work of YSRP and the additional five organizations in our cohort.”

As part of the partnership, the Philadelphia 76ers will utilize various platforms and events to spotlight the work of the six organizations selected for the 2023-2024 season. Other 2023-2024 cohort organizations are Uplift Center for Grieving Children, NOMO (New Options, More Opportunity), Unity in the Community, Making a Change Group, and Mighty Writers.

The Youth Sentencing & Reentry Project works to keep children out of adult jails and prisons and to bring home people who were sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole (“Juvenile Lifers”).
