For John,* a youth client of YSRP, violence and tragedy permeated his childhood. At just 10 years old, John’s father was murdered at the hands of a Philadelphia Police Officer, turning his life upside down.
On October 17, YSRP Co-Director Joanna Visser Adjoian headed to the studio of Aaron Freiwald, attorney and host of the weekly podcast Good Law / Bad Law. She was joined by client-partners John Pace and Giovanni Reid, both of whom are experts with lived experience, to talk in depth about what juvenile life without parole sentencings, and now re-sentencings, have looked like in practice. The conversation offered a platform to share stories, and to talk about the partnerships that are at the heart of this work in Philadelphia. YSRP’s close partner Brooke McCarthy of the Juvenile Law Center set the context by talking about Supreme Court rulings that have led to this present moment. Click below to listen.
