YSRP Celebrates 7th Anniversary of Montgomery Decision
In commemoration of the 7th anniversary of the landmark Montgomery v. Louisiana Supreme Court decision, former Juvenile Lifers, advocates, movement leaders and YSRP staff gathered to celebrate freedom on February 1, 2023. This was especially sweet, because it was the first time in person since the pandemic, following recent celebrations on Zoom.
The event was emceed by YSRP’s Senior Reentry Coordinator, John Pace, with special recognition and awards to members of YSRP’s Intergenerational Healing Circle. Additionally, youth client-partners and leaders Rodney Gardner and Raequan Deal shared remarks. Lastly, Philly influencer and advocate Wallace Peeples, known as Wallo 267, shared inspirational remarks on his experience and recognized Juvenile Lifer “unsung heroes.”
With each year, the group gets bigger, and there are more achievements to celebrate. This community serves as a clear reminder that no child should ever be sentenced to die in prison.
