June Training for Mitigation Specialists
On June 8 and 9, YSRP, in partnership with ACCR, hosted a training for new mitigation specialists. At the training, volunteers learned the ins and outs of conducting life history investigations, including providing comprehensive reentry planning and support, for individuals who, as children, were unconstitutionally sentenced to life without the possibility of parole. Attendees participated in workshops on topics like interviewing skills, trauma and implicit bias, case management and reentry planning. YSRP was honored to have a client partner, Norman Bryant, participate in the training and help teach interviewing skills to new mitigation specialists. We were equally humbled to have Theresa Reid, the sister of our client partner Giovanni Reid help train on interviewing skills as well. Giovanni was recently resentenced and is awaiting review by the Parole Board. We very much hope that he will be able to join us for a training in the near future.
