PBS Newshour Shines Light on Direct File in PA
On November 22, 2022, PBS Newshour aired a segment spotlighting Pennsylvania’s use of “direct file,” or the practice of automatically charging children as if they were adults for certain types of offenses, and the movement to end it. YSRP is a proud partner in the movement to end direct file through our leadership in the Care, Not Control campaign. This story features our close partners and allies Andre Simms & David Harrington of The Youth Art & Self-empowerment Project (YASP), and Malik Pickett of Juvenile Law Center, who frame the issue clearly: direct file is racist, it’s harmful and it needs to end, full stop.
